Next Step

Yesterday I did a few small things on the bike that stemmed from things that weren’t wrong per say but just didn’t seam right.  The first thing I did was to rerought the throttle cable.  The way the cable was routed at first was to go though the handle bars and exit at the handle bar mounts.  It then ran down and though a guide on the left side of the frame neck, hears were it gets questionable.  The cable then proceed down under the left tank and then up over the engine mounting bracket and frame back bone and down into the cable stop and carb.  This seamed ok except that the cable was very stiff and did not seem to operate smoothly.  Felt like the cable was pinched or kinked trying to go into the cable stop.  Mind you this is a solid core (wire) cable.  I did a little Googleing and I think the way the cable is supposed to be run is to go between the tanks along the back bone instead of under the left and then crossing the tank.

The next thing I did was to adjust the idle speed.  The idle should be between 700 and 800 rpm.  Well I don’t have a tack and I’m not sure ware to get one.  So for now I tuned it by ear and it sounds so much better.

This lead to a new issue which, hopefully, will be a non issue.  When the bike is running there is an extraordinary amount of white smoke coming from the breather tube.  After some more Googleing it seems that this can ether be a blow by in the rings, except there’s no smoke coming from the exhaust.  The other possibility is that the ring are not seated well.  This should be correctable by some hard accelerations or it could just straiten its self out with some riding.  Now comes the exiting part.  I think I’m going to try riding it up and down the street this week end.  Hopefully nothing will brake under the abnormal strain.
