Well its been a few days since I last posted any work. However, I’ve been busy working with Marlin. It started on Saturday with putting the oil tank back onto the bike and remounting the battery box (Img 1). Pretty easy, no big deal. Alex and I got the the electrical components back on to there mounting points and made sure every thing was cinched down. Next and the more scarey part was to take off the primary cover off in order to fix the solenoid rubber parts (Img 6). When I took the cover off there was a small environmental disaster (Img 5).  Boy am I glad I got a drop pan.  As you can see in the photo the drip pan caught all the oil.  What you can see is after Alex and I pored the oil into an oil change tub.  The next thing to do was to scrap off the old gasket (Img 2).  Alex and I spent better then an hour scraping at the outer and inner cover of the primary with a putty knife to get it all cleaned off.  I also found a few ruff spots and bad casting s that required a little bit of filing.  I hope the effort will pay off (Img 3). Next I got the new gaskets on the intake manifold (Img 4).  I think it went pretty well.  The most encouraging aspect was that the manifold felt solid and is not flexible.

Today I finished the operation.  I screwed the cover back on with a new gasket.  I also put the battery, solenoid wire, filled the oil tank and put the carburetor back on.  Then I crossed my fingers and hit the button.  Last time it started the engine would race at idle with the chock on and off.  Tonight it started and even though it ran at a high idle it wasn’t racing.  Even with the choke open. 🙂
