Routing

Last time I wrote I was planing to tare out the oil lines and replace them and that is what I started to do.  But first I needed to find an example of the oil line routing.  This photo is one of the best examples I found.  While the author has plugged some of the lines I plan to rout the lines as the factory did.  At least this is my plan until I’m told enough times that the bike is to crappy to bother keeping as original as possible.   After becoming comfortable with the diagrams and photos of the oil line routing I decided to start taring out the lines and remove the oil tank for a though can intensive cleaning.  Holy shit was this thing designed by a modern engineer who only thinks disposable?  The tank is virtually imposable to get out.  I tried taking the solenoid out to try and get it to pass out on the left.  First its a good thing I did because the solenoid boot and gasket were completely rotted away.  Secondly it didn’t work.  This brought me back to google.  I found some forum posts on this very subject. and the suggestion was “don’t” or at least wait for a complete tare down.  However, is supposedly possible to remove the tank by doing a sort of Chines puzzle box maneuver were you twist, tilt, and slide it out the right side after removing the batter box.  That should be the next project.

Now back to the solenoid.  Like I said the boot and gasket were rotted.  Witch means now I have to remove the primary cover in order to put a new boot on the solenoid plunger.  I guess the silver lining of that is that I will be able to rebuild the primary especially since I payed for a rebuild gasket kit.
