Tires On

Thank you Victor.  He took a 2 hour nap today and I was able to get both tires mounted and installed.

New Tires

Posted in Not Glide Related on April 28th, 2012 by Wade

So after spending all day putting the engine in alex’s bug I thought I would use my new tire spoons, and freshly liberated jack to change the tires on Marlin.  It started out great got the bike off the ground and got the rear wheel off .  This was of course the easiest part of the the operation.  Actually getting the first bead off the rim wasn’t to bad but the second was a bitch and a half.  First I tried to take it off the same way as the first bead but quickly gave up on that and ended up with both beads on the outsides of the rim.  This way the rim was floating inside the tire.  According to google it was supposed to now be easy to pull the rim out.  Wrong.  So after I got the second bead back on I was eventually able to get the tire off, with no small amount of sweat.

Next came the new tire.  I lubed up the bead and poped it on no problem.  This, of course, was the beginning of the end.  When I grabbed the inner tube and tried to put some air in it I found a tare.  Being that it’s 8 at night I will have to wait until tomorrow to get a tube.

Wires

Posted in Not Glide Related, repair on April 23rd, 2012 by Wade

I received in the mail (ebay) a reproduction of the wiring harness for Marlen.  I hope to have lots of pictures of the process of replacing the wiring harness but first I will have to make room in the garage.  There are lots of bug parts lying around.

Since last time

Posted in Not Glide Related on April 8th, 2012 by Wade

Its been a real long time since I added anything to this blog and with good reason.  I’ve been working on another project.  A ’69 Beetle rebuild.  Because of that I don’t have my jacks or room to work on Marlin.  However, once I get the engine back in the bug I will be able to install new tires and switch out the petcock for a new high flow petcock.

Things to do

  1. Change tires
  2. Change petcock
  3. Install rear turn lights (I have them)
  4. Rewire bike
  5. Refab the saddle bags.
