Delays

Posted in The Long Rode on September 26th, 2010 by Wade

Well as you can tell it has been a while since I posted anything here on the site.  That’s because it’s been a while since I’ve done anything on the bike.

Let’s review.

  • Gas tanks.
    • Cleaned electronically.
  • Brake master cylinder.
    • Detached but still badly corroded and fouled.
  • Front brake.
    • Needs cleaning
  • Seat Frame
    • Needs to be straightened
  • Fuel system
    • Needs petcock
  • Lubrication
    • Pump needs cleaned.
  • Electrical
    • Needs checked
    • Needs battery

Something I tried with the battery was to hook it up to a battery tender.  I had read that some times it’s possible with long slow charging to brake apart the lead sulfide crystals and get an old battery to take a charge.  Not in this case.  The battery was on the tender for about two weeks and it took no charge.
Somewhere in all that is the next step and the biggest setback to advancement is as always money and time.  Time has been a problem because of all the other things I have going on.  I coach football and that takes a lot of time.  I have also been helping a friend with some home improvement projects as well as some home improvement of my own.  Money is the harder problem.  With a new member of the family coming and the before mentioned home improvements money is not a free and loose as it once was.  This is not said as an excuse it’s just reality.  Plus is way stinking HOT outside in the garage.  Come winter it will at least be pleasant to be outside in the shelter of the garage.

Finally

After about two sprays a day for better then a week, and a few whacks with a hammer I finally got the brake master cylinder disconnected from the brake line.  Now the problem is that I can’t get the reservoir cap off.  Fortunately I started spraying it with “liquid wrench” a few days ago.  I also need to find someone to do a master cylinder re-manufacture.  So I’m a battery and a petcock away from trying to start the Glide and a complete brake system away from stopping.
